Description

Hernando Ruiz Ocampo’s (1911 – 1978) “Abstract Painting” depicts his signature style of using movement and bold colors with red and yellow elements and oscillating shadows. It recalls one of his most iconic works entitled “Genesis”, a small painting that was reproduced in Kyoto in 1968 as an immense tapestry now serving as the curtain of the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Center (CCP) for the Performing Arts.

The fiery imagery is typical of much of Ocampo’s work with curved lines, amorphic shapes, contrasting light and colors. Like “Genesis”, “Abstract Painting” glows with the intensity of red-hot embers emanating from its three- dimensional center.
