Fernando C. Amorsolo, dubbed the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” for his depictions of rural landscapes, was the first recipient of the Philippine National Artist award. On November 22, 2019, the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security handed over two Amorsolo paintings to the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco. These paintings were donated by an anonymous individual from the San Francisco Bay Area, whose father acquired them while serving as a military police officer in the Philippines. Following his passing, the family felt it was important for Filipinos to appreciate the artworks. The paintings, themed around harvest time in the Philippine countryside, are now showcased at Sentro Rizal San Francisco’s Museo ng Lahing Pilipino, supporting its mission to educate younger generations of Filipinos and Filipino Americans about the Philippines’ rich heritage and culture. |
