Description

Armed with the artist’s desire to make Japan’s pottery pattern “yuteki tenmoku” glazed using volcanic ash from Mt. Pinatubo, the artist went to the Philippines in 2018 to collect ashes. In 2019, the artist successfully created four tea bowls or chawan which were exhibited at the Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo. Currently, one of the Pinatubo Yuteki Tenmoku Tea Bowls is with the Japanese Embassy in Manila and another was donated to the Philippine Embassy in Japan in 2023. The artist believes that the tea bowls are a symbol of amity and goodwill between the Philippines and Japan.
