Description

Eghai Roxas, shaped by his exposure to Social Realism and abstractionists during his time at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, developed a distinctive style marked by floating elements and textured abstractions. His compositions, reminiscent of landscapes or celestial spaces, blend diverse textures and expressive brushwork to create a surreal yet serene experience inspired by Zen philosophy.

In his later years, Roxas incorporated influences from Abstract Illusionism, notably James Harvard, into his work, infusing social commentary with technical craftsmanship. By juxtaposing abstract patterns with cast shadows, he challenges the conventions of early to mid-20th century Abstraction, resulting in a contemporary art that evolves motifs and meanings, embodying synergy and synthesis.

His deliberate contrasts of dense textures, minimalist washes, bold strokes, and illusory shadows on large canvases reflect a fusion of modern Western abstraction and traditional Asian calligraphy, encapsulating the essence of Philippine Contemporary Art.
