“Harana is a masterpiece I made following the cubism style by Pablo Picasso. The piece depicts “Harana” or “Serenade”. It is a traditional way of courtship music in the Philippines. During a harana, the man woos a woman by singing underneath her window at dusk. The painting highlights the lady at the center, a man serenading at the right, and another man to the left, accompanying him with a guitar in his hands. This kind of courtship is widely practiced in many parts of the country following a set of protocols, a code of conduct, and a specific style of music.” |
