Description

Harana (Serenade) is a traditional way of courtship by which the man tries to woo a girl that she likes by singing to her accompanied by guitar- playing. It is not uncommon that the man will have companions, one or more will play the guitar or be the back-up vocals.

Abe Lucas, while depicting a traditional way of courtship, painted a fusion of traditional and modern times judging by the clothes of the man (traditional Filipino attire) and woman (clothes that are worn by women in the present times).

The painting, while leaning towards realism, is infused with dramatic effect with the plants visually framing the subjects in the middle
