The Church of Paoay is a Parish founded by Augustinian Missionaries in 1593. Cornerstone of Church Laid, 1704; Of Tower 1793. Inauguration Ceremonies, 28 February 1896. Church damaged by earthquakes 1706 and 1927. Tower used as an observation post by Katipuneros during the revolution and by the Guerilleros during the Japanese occupation. The past nourishes us; it is our rich legacy that will enable us to forge a future. The print collection of Ilocano Churches by Atong Valenciano gently reminds us of this even as it documents wondrous architectural achievements never again to be.
