Description

This painting depicts a group of people harvesting sugarcane in a sugarcane farm. The scene is filled with activity, as several figures are shown working together to collect the crop. In the center of the image, a man stands atop the crop bending and holding onto a bundle of sugarcane while another figure looks up at him from below. To his right, two more men work together to cut down stalks of sugarcane with machetes. On the left side of the painting, there is a woman carrying a basket full of vegetables on her head and another person holding onto bundled and packed canes for the market. Further back in the background, there are more workers standing near some plants and trees. All these figures are dressed in traditional Filipino farmer clothing that reflects their culture and environment. The colors used throughout this painting range from browns to yellows and grays which create an overall warm atmosphere for this scene as farmers work under the sun.
