Three artworks were featured at the 15th Edition of the ART TREK Event in Singapore, held at the Ambassador’s residence on September 23, 2023. Donated by the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), where Anita Magsaysay Ho completed her artist-residency in 2007, these artworks reflect a commitment to community engagement and art appreciation. The exhibit also showcased works by Lya Garcellano and was curated by Mia Marchadesch-Jaranilla. These donated pieces now belong to the Philippine Embassy’s permanent art collection. Anita Magsaysay-Ho (1914-2012), often regarded as the greatest female Filipino painter, celebrated the Filipino woman in her artwork, particularly peasant women at work. Her painting styles evolved over time, from bold brushwork and strong contrasts to soft and graceful lines, influenced by Chinese calligraphy, and a “Green Period” characterized by solid, refined colors resembling fruits and plants. Magsaysay-Ho’s biography, “In Praise of Women,” by Alfredo Roces, captures her deep admiration for Filipino women and their resilience, serving as a continuous inspiration for her art. |
