Doy Kastilyo, is an artist born in Bauan, Batangas, Philippines with his artwork known as examples of Pinoy Fauvism. His use of brilliant and dynamic lines and colors aim to provoke the viewers’ minds to see things in a different perspective. These artworks were donated mostly by artists from Batangas, the home province of the Ambassador. While there is no particular theme or genre of the artworks displayed at the Embassy, these are meant to highlight the creativity of Filipino visual artists and at the same time give a Filipiniana touch to the chancery. “The concept of Tindera Filipina encapsulates the cultural significance of and serves as a tribute to the resilient spirit of Filipino women. The role of a tindera (female vendor) is often associated with hard work, perseverance, and a strong sense of community – qualities that are deeply ingrained in the Filipino culture. Through this artwork, I aim to portray the daily life and struggles of these extraordinary women who contribute significantly to the fabric of Philippine society. I seek to honor their stories, their strength, and their relentless optimism in the face of life’s challenges. Tindera Filipina stands as a powerful symbol of empowerment. It highlights the importance of recognizing and valuing the often-overlooked contributions of these women. Through this artwork, I hope to shed light on their unwavering dedication and to celebrate the cultural heritage that shapes their identity.” Donated to the Philippine Embassy in Rabat, Morocco, on the occasion of the reopening of the Embassy. |
