Larawan ng Lahi

Filipino Artistry Uniting Nations

“Larawan ng Lahi” translates to “portrait of a race”. The term conveys the idea of representing the very essence of a people or nationality. This chapter reveals a vibrant tapestry of innovation and cultural celebration of the Philippines and various host countries. Through the pages, explore the different stories of collaboration among Filipino artists to create unique pieces that transcends borders and oceans. Some of these featured pieces include a mural that displays Philippine and Timorese cultural elements vividly, and work from art groups such as KUNST, Fil-Estilo Artists Group and Kulay Pinay and Hagod Filipinos, whose pieces tell the myriad stories of Overseas Filipino Workers living abroad.

In addition, the chapter puts a spotlight on a new kind of art form that melds play and innovation, via Lee Magpili of Copenhagen’s Lego art pieces. There’s also a special feature on Madame Esperanza Baxter, who donated a wide collection of her own embossed copper plate art pieces that depict distinctly Filipino themes and significant moments in Philippine history. Last but not least, we have included a portrait of the Father of the Philippine Revolution Andres Bonifacio created by modernist artist Diosdado M. Lorenzo.
