Description

“Bagong Bayani (modern heroes)” – that’s our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). When we hear the greeting “Kabayan”, it is like we never left home. These words bring comfort though we sweat in the scorching desert heat in construction sites, maybe tiring, but wearing ready smiles behind bank counters, lobbies of hotels, and restaurants, saving lives in hospitals day in and day out, caregivers, baby sitters and doing domestic jobs – these are all toils of love for the ones we love at home and our sweat, blood and tears keep our beloved country’s economy moving. In our perspired faces, at the end of the day, we know we are moving in the right direction.

There may be some sad stories we heard, but there are more great triumphs and successes we have to tell. With these stories, we have great leaders behind us – rescuers of the downtrodden, applauders of victors. The painting depicts the successes and great stories of millions of us Modern Heroes and Kabayans , living in harmony and cooperation and in co-beneficial existence in all countries around the world – and more especially the great Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, our second home.

Filipino creativity thrives in Saudi Arabia: Hagod Filipino and Kulay Pinay Take Center Stage:

Thousands of miles from their homeland, Filipino artists in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia keep their cultural flame burning bright. Hagod Filipino and Kulay Pinay, two dynamic groups based in Riyadh, are showcasing Filipino creativity and leaving their mark on the Saudi art scene.

Hagod Filipino, established in Riyadh, has provided a nurturing space for Filipino artists of all backgrounds for decades. Led by a dedicated team of more than ten members, including Mr. Natalie Alob Jr., Mr. Marjoe Suvisor, and Mr. Neil Pinar, the group fosters artistic expression and community spirit. Their diverse talents encompass various mediums, from painting and sculpture to photography and digital art.

Kulay Pinay, a group of eight talented Filipina artists, brings a vibrant feminine perspective to the Saudi art scene. Ms. Leslie Ann Fiestan, Ms. Vianca Cabigting, and Ms. Iris Yvonne Felongco are just a few of the group’s members who have collaborated with Hagod Filipino on projects like the inspiring “Bagong Bayani” mural at the Philippine Embassy’s Multipurpose Hall in 2022.

These groups are not just creating art; they are building bridges between cultures. They participate in local exhibitions, organize workshops, and collaborate with Saudi artists, promoting cultural exchange and understanding. Their dedication and talent have garnered recognition, including participating in events like the 124th Philippine Independence Day celebration at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

Beyond artistic merit, Hagod Filipino and Kulay Pinay serve as a source of strength and support for the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia. They provide a platform for expressing and celebrating heritage and fostering a sense of belonging. Their success story inspires other Filipino artists abroad and demonstrates the enduring power of creativity to connect people across border.
